Preserving Our Success, Building For the Future

Kearney has a “can do” attitude. Getting the job done is more important than who gets the credit. City Council Member Jonathan Nikkila is committed to these Kearney values. He will keep what is working, but isn’t afraid to admit and address challenges.

About Jonathan

Creating a Climate for Businesses & Jobs

Jonathan has helped to create a positive economic environment so citizens, entrepreneurs and businesses can be innovative, grow and invest in our community. While the city has an important role to play, ultimately small business owners and their hard working employees are the people who drive our community’s economic success. Jonathan is committed to never letting unnecessary government red tape be the cause for a business to take a pass on Kearney.

Transparency Matters

Jonathan is always available via phone, email, in-person or Facebook to address any issue raised by a citizen. He believes everyone deserves to be heard. Whether people agree or disagree with his decisions, they deserve information and explanations about the actions of their city.

Keeping Kearney Family Friendly

During Jonathan’s time on City Council, the city has kept Kearney sales and property tax rates equal to or lower than all “First Class” cities in Nebraska. Equally as important is that the city has done this while maintaining a high level of quality in its services, including clean streets, effective and respected police and fire departments, and one of the best parks systems in all of Nebraska. These things keep UNK graduates in town, and draw families and retirees. This ensures Kearney continues to attract the talent to fill the many roles needed to keep this city moving forward.
